Dave’s Silk Almondmilk Coffee Chiller

silk almondmilk collective bias disclaimer

It’s summer, which means that it’s too darn hot to have hot cups of coffee. And when I’m working at home while watching yet another amazing World Cup 2014 match, I need a beverage that fulfills my morning caffeine needs, is tasty and healthy and quick to assemble and blend. For bonus points for my smoothie with almond milk, something dairy-free is good too, since I just know my 14yo son is going to steal some and with his summer allergies, it’s critical we keep him off dairy too.

Enter Silk AlmondMilk. We already drink Silk products, but there are two new varieties that caught our eye: Silk AlmondMilk Protein + Fiber, and Silk AlmondCoconut Blend. Good stuff.

With the right ingredients and a special secret step, my recipe for what I like to call Dave’s Coffee Chiller.

First step is to pop out to the market and find these new Silk AlmondMilk products. Here’s what that refrigerated display looked like at my local Safeway store:

At home, I assembled all the ingredients for the coffee chiller:

  • Silk Almondmilk Protein + Fiber
  • Starbucks VIA coffee (pick your favorite flavor)
  • 1 cup of ice cubes
  • mixing cup or mixer container
  • coffee mug

In a photograph, it looks like this:

The first step is the secret: you can’t just dump VIA coffee into a cold beverage and have it dissolve properly. I’ve tried, more than once.

Instead, pour it into a coffee mug:

Remember in Harry Potter when Professor Trelawney read the tea grounds? I wonder what she’d make of this!

Add boiling water, about a quarter-cup.

Now dump all the ice cubes into the mixing container:

Then the hot coffee…

Now fill the container to the max fill line (approx 1 – 1 1/2 cups) with Silk Almondmilk Protein + Fiber…

Add almondmilk to make dave's coffee chiller!

Once filled, put the mixing blade on then drop it on your blender. I use a Ninja blender (which I love, especially the convenient cup, as being demonstrated in this photo-recipe). Just pre-blend, it looks like this:

And post-blend…

In fact, it’s delicious and surprisingly healthy, a fast, tasty way to have a coffee chiller a la a Frappuccino, but 10x better for you (and if you must, you could always add some chocolate chips 🙂

That’s it. I need to go drink this up now, so I’ll bid you adieu and invite you to leave a comment sharing how my Coffee Chiller turned out for you, once you gave it a whirl!
